Bat Eared Fox

When you are extremely lucky you may see the bat eared foxes on Shakati. I spotted these curious and teddy bear like creatures very early on a game drive. Just shows you how the bush may always surprise you.

Identification
Length: 55-75 cm

Ears Length: 13 cm

Height at shoulder 35 cm

Weight: 3 -5 kg

Large Bat like ears

slender black legs and a black sharp-pointed muzzle

Coat is silver-gray, and longish with a grizzled appearance. The tail is long and bushy, black on top and near the tip.

Diet
Termites and dung beetles, other prey items include insects, millipedes and centipedes, scorpions, spiders, fruits, eggs, snakes, lizards, frogs, occasional small mammals, birds and soft tubers and roots, ants, beetles, crickets, grasshoppers, millipedes, moths, scorpions, spiders, and rarely birds, small mammals, reptiles, and fungi
